P for parents

They're the ones who scolded you and gave you a caning when you misbehaved.

The very same people who hugged you and told you could do it when you felt like you couldn't, the ones who cheered you from the stands when you emerged as champion in your favourite sport at a school competition.

The dependable duo who magically seemed to always have cash to spare whenever you asked for some (though you later found out this wasn't quite true).

And although they may the source of the most annoying yet useful reminders in your lifetime, they are also likely the two people who know you best.

We can't choose our parents, but we can choose to love them - for who they are to us and for all they've done in making us who we are today.

*Disclaimer:
I know that not everyone has loving, devoted parents, so I guess this post may not resonate with every single person who reads it. But I'm speaking optimistically here, because even though we can't choose the circumstances life throws at us, we can decide to make the best out of whatever we have, and I guess that's the main message that I'd like to get across here.

I definitely appreciate my parents more the older I get. I know it's not an easy job and they did they best they could with what they had.

No one is perfect, not even parents. I try to remember what my parents did that worked and repeat that. The things they did that were not so good, I try to avoid. But like Karen said, our parents did the best they could and that is all I can do as well--try my best and never give up.l

Sometimes I get so annoyed with my mother and then feel bad because she's everything you mentioned in the post and more and a lot of people never get to have such a great relationships with their parents.

I can say with absolute certainty that I am the product of my parents, and I know it too. What's more, I think I'm finally comfortable with that. Thanks for sharing, and it's a pleasure to meet you via the A-Z Challenge!

Karen: Good to know that :) I hope I'll always remember all the sacrifices that my parents did too.

Linda: Yup, it's good to learn from them... both the good and the bad, and then to filter and use the good bits :)

Misha: Haha yeah, I get annoyed with my Mum quite often! Maybe it's this "familiarity breeds contempt" thing :P

Jeffrey: You're welcome, and I'm glad to meet you too. Thanks for stopping by :)
