Fall

Last Friday, between the hours of 10pm and 11pm, I had an accident that was both unexpected and dramatic.

I'd been ill already for several days and had not been having a good appetite. On this fateful evening, I had decided to ingest a lovely bowl of ABC soup made lovingly by my mother in hopes of overcoming this recent spell of malnutrition.

This act unfortunately led me to the toilet with a stomach ache. I began to feel faint while cleaning up in the toilet and very suddenly passed out. In the process, I fell face forward and hit part of my face and my teeth onto the step at the entrance of the toilet.

Consequently, I had parts of 2 front teeth knocked out and lots of blood oozing from the injuries. I also had the misfortune of smashing my phone at the same time.

Although I've had several fainting spells over the years and this isn't exactly the only time, this incident was definitely the most severe and the first time I experienced harm to my body due to becoming momentarily unconscious.

It is a rather alarming thing.

With bleeding not seeming to cease and me being aware of my front teeth now looking more like vampire fangs than regular incisors, I was slightly concerned what might need to be done for me at the Accident & Emergency section of the hospital.

But as it turns out, nothing too extraordinary took place there.

In fact, they didn't want to comment nor address my dental injuries at all as they said there was no dentist on call there who could give their professional input. So I was advised to seek help at a regular dental clinic as soon as I could.

They did, however, run blood tests, perform an ECG and administer meds and nutrients to me through an IV line. Soon enough, they let me go home.

Next day saw us at the dentist around noon. Thankfully there was someone willing to see us on short notice at our regular dental clinic. Examination of my damaged teeth were made and decisions were formed.

My top front teeth now sit in a splint as they are slowly being pulled back into alignment. My bottom front teeth are not being tied down in any way though as they are expected to heal on their own. However, a line of ulcers accompany the shaky teeth on the inner part of my lip.

The chipped teeth up top have been shaved down slightly to make them less menacing and problematic for my eating and dental hygiene routine. But they still look odd and depictive of some kind of monster's teeth. For now, anyway, till this restorative process reaches its conclusion some time in the distant future.

Oh well. I guess I should be grateful that they did not need to be extracted right off the bat.

After receiving given orders to observe a strict soft diet for the next few weeks, I was then allowed to take my leave and resume my ordinary life once more.

Life seems so full of random incidents at times that I do wonder what they amount to. This recent one is especially curious. But well, I guess, we all accumulate our injuries and mishaps as the years roll on.

Someday, at my life's end, I will reflect on how much my body has evolved from its early days of existence. I don't suppose it will be anything to be proud of by then, but nevertheless the scars tell a story.

And I guess every story deserves to run its course and to meet its intended ending.

I wonder how mine shall go.
